Application for the 2019-2020 school year now open until Jan. 18th, 2019 at 4pm:
Arlington Tech is open to all students in Arlington. There are no neighborhood boundary zones – the only requirements for entry are academic (see below). To be eligible for admission, students and their families must complete the APS “Option Schools Application Form”. Forms will be available online and hard copies will be available at the Welcome Center (2110 Washington Blvd, 22204) or at APS schools. For more information on the county-wide options process, visit https://www.apsva.us/school-options/.
We will have 150 spots available for our next incoming 9th grade class. We will also have a limited number of spots for 10th grade transfers.
Applications Open – November 5th, 2018
Applications Close – January 18th, 2019 at 4pm
Requirements for Entry:
Math Requirement (to ensure access to Dual-Enrolled Courses): All students need to be in Algebra II (or above) by the 10th grade. In accordance with this requirement, the following must occur.
-Students entering the 9th grade must have earned a verified credit in Algebra I by the end of their 8th grade year. If not, they will commit to earning a Geometry credit in the summer between their 9th and 10th grade years.
-Students entering the 10th grade must have earned a verified credit in Algebra I and Geometry by the end of their 9th grade year. If not, they will commit to earning a Geometry credit in the summer between their 9th and 10th grade years.
Cohort Requirement (to ensure that students access interdisciplinary PBL): all students enrolling in Arlington Tech agree to participate in a cohort and maintain a schedule that maps to our course pathway.
If we receive more applications than we have spots, a double blind lottery (open to the public) will conducted. APS will conduct the random double-blind lottery to determine admission. If families apply to more than one school/program, their application will go into all lotteries simultaneously.
Lotteries for all Secondary Options schools will be held on January 29th, 2019 at the Welcome Center by Department of Teaching and Learning staff. Students will be notified by mail if they receive a spot; all others will be placed on a waitlist in the order from the lottery. Families will be notified of their selection no later than February 5th, 2019. Parents must confirm or decline attendance to the program by February 22nd, 2019.
