Government Students Honored for C-SPAN StudentCam Competition

Arlington Tech Seniors in Mr. Scanlon’s Government & Politics Class recently competed in the C-SPAN StudentCam Student Documentary Competition. This is an annual competition for middle and high school students across the country where students are tasked with creating a 5–6 minute documentary that responded to a prompt. This year’s prompt was, “Your message to the President: What issue is most important to you or your community?”

This year, StudentCam received almost 3,500 entries, and we are proud to say that Mr. Scanlon had two student groups who were awarded prizes for their student documentaries!

Cody Finnegan and Mae Seward were awarded a third-place prize for their documentary titled “How to Save a Generation: Battling the Youth Drug Crisis.”

  • This recognition places them in the top 2% of all submissions nationwide and comes with a $750 prize
  • Their documentary can be found at this link

Caroline Schwebach, Margaret Odar, and Lukas Korcinskis were awarded an honorable mention for their documentary titled “A Matter of Life or Debt” about healthcare in the United States.

  • This recognition places them in the top 5% of all submissions nationwide and comes with a $250 prize.

Congratulations to these students, and kudos to Mr. Scanlon for encouraging our students to let their voices be heard!
